Well, I didn't get around to making my King Cake on Tuesday, so I didn't officially celebrate Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday). Instead, we had friends over and had Gumbo and King Cake yesterday making it Vendredi Gras (Fat Friday). :)

I LOVE gumbo and this was by far the best King Cake I've ever made! I'm learning. This year, my cake actually had a hole in the center! :) I've got to learn, however, more about the frosting. As you can see, more ended up in a puddle in the middle than on the cake itself. :)
Ethan decided he wanted to help! :)

I didn't realize just how dirty my hot pads were...they're now in the washer!

SOMETIME when you are bored, send me your recipe for king cake! I haven't had it for years. I was thinking just recently about how it is Mardi Gras season, and there is no king cake here for me to eat!!
Yum! Will you email me your king cake recipe? Obviously no rush, since I probably won't make it anytime soon. But I rememeber when you made it at Sparks and it was really good!
I hear you on the dirty hot pads. It seems like I never notice how dirty mine are until I have company and then I am so embarrassed!
I'm so impressed. I had no idea it was even Mardi Gras time (until reading Jen's blog, then Katie's and yours :). Oh well, I guess I'm just not a Louisiana girl anymore! It would have been yummy to make a King Cake though . . .
You are such a festive southern woman! And doesn't dirty hot pads=lots of cooking in the kitchen? Because sometimes I get ashamed at how clean mine are?! Just kidding, they're always dirty because I'm pretty much a messy cook :)
My question is: How do hot pads get dirty anyway? They come out of the drawer and go right back in two seconds later. Somehow mine always get so filthy!
