Field day is a day that I honestly remember detesting. I was never the fastest, strongest, etc. and didn't love having to prove that over and over. I loved being active but not competition. Now, I do believe competition has its place and that it serves a purpose, but I kind of loved the freestyle manner of our elementary's field day. There were 12 different stations, I think, and the kids were free to go to any of them at any time. The rule was they had to stick together with their buddy. There were tons of parents there to help and watch so it all worked out. I'm going to go into way more detail than normal because I promised someone (a long time ago...sorry!) that I would as she's in charge of their field day.
kiddie pools with frisbees floating on them that they tried to throw ducks onto
water relay...bucket of water with a cup with a hole in it...other kid holds empty two-liter bottle...each time they dump their cup, they switch places with their partner
ring toss around cones
bean bag toss...Ethan celebrating a bit after making a score
Jared watched anxiously most of the time. He really wanted to be a part of things, and when the stations weren't busy, he got to. Another plus for the laid-back style!
There was a basketball station...pretty simple...a few balls and hoops...no game...just dribbling and shooting.
a scooter obstacle race...around a few cones and back
flag tag...the last one with a flag won
100-yard dash...race against partner
hurdles race
big football race against another partnership...they had to go around the domes
big ball race...again around cones and back
obstacle course
pool noodle darts through hula hoop
football toss to knock over tennis balls set on cones
