I need help! I'm trying to decide what to do with the patch of wall in between our door and window. (I decided to let it be a "real" shot...so I didn't hang up my coat and purse.)

This is our primary door. (I almost said we didn't have another door...that's how often we use our "back door" in the basement.) We don't have an entry way or a mud room...that's it...3 feet of wall. Now, I'm not complaining! There is a closet right across from the door and I LOVE THAT CLOSET! However, I've been thinking that there must be something I can do to keep things more organized or simply more finished-looking with that space. Suggestions? Please! I really want your opinions.
Things I've thought of:
-3m command hooks (nickel finish)
-magnet board with hooks
-mirror shelf with hooks
(I want there to be hooks involved.)
The problem with some of these is that I haven't found them! The hooks by themselves are easy but boring. Would I really use the magnet board? And for what? Would you really want to see yourself so close right there?
I ask because I know that you all have beautiful homes and great ideas on home decor! Please give me ideas, include links, whatever!
Thanks for your help! I wish you lived close enough to come shopping with me and give me in-person opinions!

That might be a good place for something like this as you leave home:

You could hang the hooks right below it.
This:

is also amazing, but maybe too much clutter for that space. You could maybe "downsize" this one.
I think this is a great idea and that might be just the spot for it:

What about hanging a pretty bag like this:

you could put mittens, hats, sunscreen, etc in it. I keep a basket by our door that is my "out box" It has anything that needs to go with me, mail, items to return, permission slips for school. When I have something that I know will need to "go out" I just dump it into the basket. Then I just take the basket to the car as I go, or else I grab the items I need on my way out. This has saved me from forgetting things so many times!
Good luck, and share what you end up doing, because I so enjoy all of your ideas!
I definitely like the idea of having something above the hooks to really make visual use of the wall as well. I think any shelf, mirror, or picture would look nice (well, probably not ANY :).
Not a wall decoration, but that would be a prime spot for a storage bench like this one: http://www.furnitureontheweb.com/noframe/items/196076nf.html
I would go with a decorative shelf in a bronze or dark metal that had some hooks beneath it. Above the shelf you could display items or pictures or put on the those vinyl phrases on the wall.
p.s. your boy is one of the funniest kids ever! I LOVE your sidebar of the things he says! :D
I actually think that I might move the clock to that spot and either do one of those boards that have like 3 hooks on it underneath it (you can get cute ones at target) OR put the clock a little off center and have a stand up coathanger next to it. That would take care of the coat/purse thing. They may be a little old fashioned, but I like them.
Then I would put a piece of artwork where the clock is.
Good luck, it will look good I'm sure.
Maybe a mirror with some coat hooks. it sound weird but i've seen stuff like it at pottery barn or maybe a bench to take shoes on and off that has storage underneath for shoes. Just some thoughts.
Sharon I had no idea you have a blog! The only one I could ever find was the recipe one. I can't believe how big Ethan is, he is so adorable! How are you doing? You are missed at the family parties!

Okay, so I know I never gave my input about this post, but I figured you had plenty of feedback. :) But I just have to say that I LOVE your sidebar. I'm seriously laughing out loud as I read it. Ethan is such a funny, smart kid. You must have your hands full!
Sharon, I am clueless. We have a mirror/shelf/hook thingy that serves us well. I would love a small bench with baskets beneath the mirror to keep shoes and other things hidden. But, I'm too cheap.
What about a hall/console table? You wouldn't want it to be too short though. You could put a cool plant or flower arrangement on top with a mirror on the wall behind. Depth, color, place to put your "out" basket. Personally, I would look on Pottery Barn for ideas and then recreate it for a fraction of the cost by shopping around at Ross, craigslist and TJ Maxx or something.
