Why?

Sometimes I think I've found the best photo opportunity...why is it I usually end up with a photo like this? We're still working on real smiles! :) This one is a better smile, but still a little fake and he was already getting impatient and trying to leave. For this one, I decided to eliminate the smiling problem. :) P.S.--I have a question for those of you with big, nice cameras. Do you take your nice camera to playgroup at the park? That's where I snapped these shots. I've been wanting a nice camera, but I'm just not sure I'd drag it with me everywhere...and then I wonder if it's worth it. I really want the clarity I see in your photos, but if I'm not going to have it with me, what's the point since I'm definitely not planning on going into business.

Actually, yes, we do drag our honkin cameras all over the place. The exception would be my large format, but I don't think you'd get one of those.

As for clarity, you're not going to see a huge increase in blog photos when you go from a good point-and-shoot to a DSLR. The difference comes from knowing how to use the camera.

The shot of Ethan in the tree is a good example: Taken with a DSLR on auto settings, it will probably look pretty much the same. But, if you know to open the aperture to shorten the depth of field, the background will be out-of-focus, pulling the attention towards Ethan's face. If you know to use a 210mm to flatten the shot, and then use a reflector on the flash to fill-in shadows, it would look awesome.

I know several people who spent a lot of money on cameras, and then didn't see a difference in their photos. A little poking around google for photo tutorials can bring even a beginner a long way.

JMO, but I wouldn't lug a big one around. I bought a good camera last summer and I'm really pleased with it. Link:

Whew! That first comment just makes me tired! ha ha But I think if you had the time, it would be fun to study up on all the camera stuff. I told Jack I wanted a DSLR camera last Christmas, but we had just bought a new point-and-shoot and had a hard time spending all the money on a DSLR. So we didn't get one, but if you do get one I'll be interested to see how it goes. :)

Oh, and I had to google "JMO." I am so not okay with Ms Susan knowing more about internet lingo than me! j/k :)

I so need to call you. I've been in some spacey little world for what feels like months! Anyway, I hope you're great. I'm trying to play a little catch up on blogs. I get so overwhelmed when I get behind, but I should at least check my BFF's! :) Your family is too cute and I'm having fun (even though I should be going to bed . . . :)

My DSLR is our only camera so it comes just about everywhere (for better or for worse). I've now had to replace my lens twice (OUCH!) because they're totally plastic and apparently break with the slightest impact. After the second time I did realize we had a crud case so I invested in a better one. But now I'm more careful than ever! It still comes to the beach though :)
