New Jersey here we come!
Well, we've accepted a job offer and we'll be moving to New Jersey in July! We'll be settled somewhere around Morristown, the Capital of the American Revolution. I can't wait to go exploring the beautiful area and historic sites! We'll also be a 45-minute drive from NYC. So...everyone start scheduling your vacation times! We'd love to have you come visit! We'll be your own private and free bed and breakfast (that is, if you don't mind an air mattress and Lucky Charms...just teasing, I'd make you scrambled eggs!). We'll even try and pick up a local accent so you feel like it's the real thing. (Actually, one of the funniest thoughts I've had is that Ethan may develop an accent since he'll be learning to talk there!) But, seriously, visitors will be welcomed. :) Here are a few pictures I found. (You can see more by clicking on the link above.)

So, this leads me to part number two: (Sorry there's so much text in this post!)
Things I want to do before leaving Provo:
1. have Bethany take our family pictures
2. hike "Y" mountain (I've never actually done that, though there was a pretty funny attempt once.)
3. hmm...I thought I had more. :) I was thinking of them as I was lying in bed trying to fall back asleep at 4 this morning.
Well, any suggestions?

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Morristown does indeed look beautiful. The east coast is so lucky to get you! Kelly and I look forward to booking our stay at Le Chateaux Patton, complete with New Jersey accents. :)
You might not remember us but we were in the Wymount ward with you a couple years ago Justin was the employment specialist, I was the primary pianist, and choir director. WE LIVE IN NYC, so it would be great to get together once you get here! I've found a few kid friendly things to do in the city, and there are some really great things to see and do that you can't do anywhere else.
I have a few things that I miss like crazy about Provo, most of them you might still have access to in New Jersey (having a car, discount stores--Costco, walmart, kmart, houses instead of apartment buildings, birds other than pigeons.)
I miss Kneaders, Cafe Rio, and Thai Ruby--so get your fill. There are places like them, but not the same. I miss DI, the thrift stores here aren't quite the same. I miss the cheap BYU concerts and plays. I miss the DOLLAR theater (it costs 11.23 for a matinée movie here and 17 dollars for a regular showing it might be cheaper outside the city.)
Congratulations, and let us know when you get out here!
Oh, and, we lived in Utah for 7 years and never went to the Great Salt Lake, I went when I was a kid, and it was kind of cool. I never went to Arches. And we never went to the Shakespeare festival (and we should have cause they have similar things in central park but its much harder to get a seat.)
Oh, and, can we come visit you? I'm a small town girl, and I can only take so much of the city.
Congratulations on having a bit of your future nailed down---no sleepless nights wondering what will happen to your family after you graduate!! Morristown looks beautiful, and it's so fun that it has so much history around it. Before you leave Provo you should...go rock climbing in Rock Canyon? Float on tubes down the Provo River? Ride the Heber Creeper? Go on hikes up the canyon? Check out www.utahvalley.org for some more "must-dos" before you leave for NJ.
Cool! This is so exciting! I am trying to remember what was on our list of "must dos" before we left that I am still glad we did. took a bunch of pictures at Temple Square and at the Provo Temple. We took a tour of the Conference Center, we hadn't ever seen the gardens on top before, that was neat. We visited the Museum of Church History and Art. I am glad we did all the stuff since those are things we can't really duplicate anywhere else.
wow, congratulations Sharon! What a neat place to move! I am quite jealous of the opportunity to have a real monetary income. I visited Washington DC 8 years ago, and absolutely fell in love with back east. Something to do before you go? I would suggest Zions National Park, it is amazing.
congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!! we are SO coming to visit!!! you are going to be living the dream!! ;) and heck yes i'll take your pictures before you go!
p.s. my favorite thing about utah is downtown salt lake. if and when we move, i will probably wish i visited temple square more often or something. and of course there is a million things to miss about provo!! :) you guys are going to have so much fun. i'm so glad blogging can keep us connected. :)
That's so exciting! It's exciting and scary, I think... have y'all been there before? It wasn't so scary about Seattle for us because we spent last summer there.
And fun things to do...
Spend a day walking around BYU campus and think of all the fun classes you had there.
Visit every temple here, since no other state can boast this many temples within a day's drive!
Definitely do the provo river, rock climbing, and heber creeper stuff.
I am elated! Morristown looks and sounds amazing. I love how rich with the history the area will be. You'll have plenty to keep you busy!
Here's is the rest of your list:
4. Chinese food and The Great Dalmoody (spellcheck?) with the Ballards.
5. Temple night and let the Ballards babysit.
6. Enjoy many breezy spring afternoons with your friends in the fire lane!
7. Buy an air mattress so we can come and visit you soon.
So exciting! Wow!!!
Congrats! I can't believe it happened so quickly! And I definitely remember that funny attempt at hiking Y mountain - a few Cajuns that thought they could make their own trail to the top! :)
Hooray Patton tribe! You will have a blast on the east coast!! However now comes the trial with trying to not be "trunky" before you move! :) Good thing you have lots of plans to keep you occupied! Things I wish we would've done before we moved:
--done a session at the SLC temple
--gone to Zions
--enjoyed the canyon a little more.
Keep us all posted!
Stupid uncontrolled emotions . . . I got a bit teary here. Sharon, it scares me to have you so far away! I know traveling is tough, but we have to promise we'll figure it out!
Ok, that was kind of stupid. I know we don't see each other much anyway, but it's still crazy. Anyway, what I really meant to say is CONGRATS! That's so exciting! What an adventure :)
SHARON. I am so excited for you. How long will you be there? Dave and I are seriously considering several places in New England for residency (like you, we are dying to get to the historic American sites!) ... and if not for residency, certainly for vacations sometime! We would love to stop by your bed and breakfast. (In like 3 years, okay?) I am so excited for you, and those pictures made me want to move to New Jersey as well. You will love the change. It is different leaving Utah, but it will be so fun to be on your own. I am so happy for you guys!
And definitely, have Bethany take your family pictures!
Let's be friends. Er, still. I live 4 hrs away, and would LOVE to have a free place to stay that close to NYC. And, uh, close to you guys. ;)
HOORAH for the east coast!!
Wow! You're moving back east! I'm very jealous. I always wanted to live back east for awhile. There are so many green trees I think it must be paradise to live there! It's so exciting to move on and start work after your schooling. Congratulations!
That's exciting. I think it's fun to move away for a while. We have really enjoyed it in Ohio. We would love to come visit you sometime. It's crazy how close everything is out here. We are driving to DC for spring break this year. We keep saying we want to go to NYC, and Morristown to see some old friends will be a great addon to that trip. You are welcome to come visit us any time too. We aren't really close to any church history sites, but we would love to have you (even if you are just driving through).
